New year brings new activities

Hey everyone,

From everyone at Turramurra Rover crew we hope you all had a good Xmas and New Years Eve and enjoyed what ever you took part in. For us the fun never stops, with the crew out and about doing service orientated and outdoor orientated activities, even before the new year had started!

Activties Service wise, we had crew members helping out at Lord Mayors Picnic on New Years eve. Ways we helped were by supervising the running of activities, and helping prepare food all day and having great fun at the same time. At the end of the night they got front row view of the 9pm fireworks below government house.

Outdoor actitvites are something our crew is known for taking to new heights and conquering them one adventure at a time. 2 of the big trips we have done in January Were: So You Think You Can Abseil off Boars Head in the Blue Mountains and So You Think You Can Canyon at Upper Bowen's Wharf.

So you think you can abseil

There are lots more exciting thing whch the crew is doing so if you look to your left

We can also be contacted at crew@turramurrarovers.com if you wish to email us :)

Harbour Cruise 2011 Wrap-up

On 14th October, about 200 Rovers and friends gathered at the Commissioner's Stairs in Circular Quay in preparation for another fantastic Turramurra Harbour Cruise!

With this year's theme being "Masquerade", the most common thing heard all night was, "Oh, I didn't recognise you under the mask!" And what masks they were. The three storey cruise ship was a sea of glitter, feathers and sequins, dotted with islands of attention seekers, including the Phantom, a towel wrapped day-spa guest, a blood-drenched Jason, Zorro and even a Transformer.

This year was the first time that Turramurra has organised a DJ and live entertainment, which went down with the revellers even better than the icy cold beverages. Jerky kept the crowd entranced with their bluegrass brilliance, featuring Cam Wheatley (Epping Rovers) on the guitar and harmonica, and Simon Mould (also Epping Rovers) on the banjo... guitar... ukelele and even the fiddle. They were followed onto the stage by Sydney North event "repeat offenders" Aerobi, who again brought their blend of Shirt Rock / Post-Pop Academic Funk to the party, including Zorro (Dom Warland from Turramurra) on the drums. Spesh from MtColah/Mt K kept the crowd pumping for the rest of the night with his ever impressive DJ skills.

Awards for Best Dressed went to Candis (Blaxland Kalangadoo Crew) for her Steam-Punk inspired gown and mask, and Jean-Luc (2nd Baulkham Hills) for his bowler hat, walking stick, fancy coat and waist-coat combination.

Thanks again Turramurra Rovers for another year of water-borne fun!

Good bye Jen

There comes at time in peoples lives during rovers that they turn 26, which means that they have outlived their time as a rover in the scouting movement, but not in the movement entirely. This weekend Rovers from Turramurra and various other crews both past and present came together to celebrate Jens life in rovers and reflect back to all the good times, followed up by Jen's legendary Spit roast ( BEST EVER). So from everyone at Turramurra Rovers thank you Jen for you massive contribution to the crew whilst you have been with us and hope to see you at various scouting events to come in the near future, cause once a rover, always a rover.
